An epic journey begins on August 20, 2022, I will be cycling with a team of riders until we reach Halifax.

This will be my eight time riding for Wellspring. I ride for many reasons. It started by supporting Samantha in her cancer journey. As I became more knowledgeable about Wellspring, I came to realize how important these services are for so many people and my reasons for doing this expanded.

This ride has always been a physical challenge and I've always been able to finish strong but this year is different. This will represent the harderst ride that I have ever undertaken as I've had to overcome a number of personal challenges that make riding a bike for long distances more challenging than in years past.

Last summer, I was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident while cycling. While I was able to recover from the concussion, I did not get back on a bike last year and it certainly has taken some of the joy out of cycling (always wear your helmets kids).

In the fall of last year, I suffered a stroke. During those first few weeks, I wasn't sure I was ever going to properly walk again and the thought of being able to cycle was wishful thinking. Throughout the past 8 months, I have made great strides in my recovery to where I felt confident enough to take on this challenge.

And lastly, I underwent a heart procedure earlier this to address a congenital heart defect that I didn't know I had. All of these factors have eroded my fitness and training and shaken my confidence in an activity that I love, making this year the most challenging yet.

The universe has tried to take me off of my bicycle but I refuse to give in, so this year the ride for Wellspring has a different meaning to me. I'm determined to get to the finish line as I have always done. Your donation to Wellspring will help propel me to the end and together we can help those individuals and families living with cancer to overcome their own challenges through Wellsping.
